Tofuku-ji Temple
Tofuku-ji is the best place in Kyoto to see autumn foliage (momiji). The famous covered Tsuten-kyo Bridge overlooks a valley blanketed with maple trees that turn fiery red in November. The temple itself is massive, one of the largest Zen temples in Kyoto, with modern rock gardens designed by Mirei Shigemori in 1939 that blend traditional and contemporary styles. Outside peak season, the grounds are remarkably peaceful.
