Tihany Abbey
Tihany Abbey, a Benedictine monastery perched on the Tihany Peninsula overlooking Lake Balaton, is one of Hungary's oldest historical monuments. Founded in 1055 by King Andrew I, it houses the founder's royal crypt and a magnificent 18th-century Baroque church with ornate altars and frescoes. The hilltop location offers breathtaking panoramic views of the lake and surrounding villages. The museum displays rare manuscripts and exhibits tracing the history of Benedictine monasticism in Hungary. The surrounding lavender fields bloom in June and July, adding special charm to any visit and creating a fragrant purple landscape
