Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve
Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve is just a 45-minute drive from central Canberra and serves as a sanctuary for Australia's unique wildlife. Visitors can spot koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, emus, and perhaps even the elusive platypus in their natural habitat. The reserve features 24 marked trails ranging from 15-minute strolls to full-day hikes through diverse landscapes including wetlands, grasslands, and forests. The name Tidbinbilla comes from the Ngunnawal word meaning the place where boys become men. The Birrigai Rock Shelter is the oldest known Aboriginal site in the region, with evidence of occupation dating back 21,000 years. Adjacent to the NASA Deep Space Communication Complex, making for a unique day trip combination.
