Metro M1 (red) to Duomo or Cordusio. Or M3 (yellow) to Duomo or Montenapoleone. Exit to Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, walk through — you're at Piazza della Scala.

Tickets at teatroallascala.org 2 months before performance. Box office at Largo Ghiringhelli 1 open Mon-Sat 12:00-18:00. On premiere day opens at 10:00. 2 hours before show — tickets only for that evening.

For premieres — strict: men in black formal wear, women in evening gowns. Regular performances — suit and tie for men, elegant attire for women. Jeans and sneakers frowned upon.

Travel Tips

Useful tips for visiting Teatro alla Scala (La Scala)

Museum is great alternative if performance tickets unavailable. From 3rd-tier balcony you can see the legendary red-gold hall (if no rehearsals).

December 7 — Saint Ambrose Day, Milan's patron. La Scala season opens this day. Most prestigious and expensive night of the year.

Open Ticket (€15) lets you visit any day until year end without queuing. Convenient if schedule is uncertain.

Box office and museum entrance at Largo Ghiringhelli, side of main facade. Don't look for entrance from main square.
