Taquile Island
Taquile Island is a cultural gem on Lake Titicaca, famous for its UNESCO-recognized weaving traditions. The 2,200 islanders maintain their ancient way of life where men learn to knit from a young age and women are master weavers. Colorful hats indicate a man's social status - red for married, white and red for single. Visiting requires climbing 500 steps from the harbor, but panoramic views of snow-capped mountains and deep blue lake make it worthwhile.
