Szigliget Castle
Szigliget Castle sits atop a volcanic hill overlooking Lake Balaton and the picturesque village of Szigliget below. Built in the 13th century as a defensive fortress, it survived the Ottoman invasion making it one of the few castles in the region never captured by the Turks. After extensive restoration the castle now offers interactive exhibitions about medieval life and Hungarian castle culture. The steep climb takes approximately 20 minutes but rewards visitors with sweeping panoramic views stretching across the lake, the Badacsony hills, and surrounding plains. The village below features charming streets with traditional Hungarian houses and local wine cellars
