Svan Towers

Svan Towers are medieval defensive tower-houses, the symbol of UNESCO-listed Upper Svaneti region. Ushguli village alone has over 200 towers dating from the 9th-12th centuries. Built for protection against invaders, blood feuds, and avalanches. Standing 20-25 meters tall, they are testimony to a unique mountain culture that has survived for centuries in one of Europe's highest inhabited settlements.
