Sumeg Castle
Sumeg Castle is one of Hungary's best-preserved medieval fortresses, perched on a 270-meter hilltop north of Lake Balaton. Dating back to the 13th century and once belonging to the Bishop of Veszprem, the castle was never captured by Ottoman invaders. Famous for its medieval equestrian shows featuring sword fights and archery demonstrations held during summer months, the castle offers an immersive journey into Hungary's past. Visitors can explore towers, ramparts, a torture chamber exhibition, and an armory display. From the upper walls panoramic views extend across the town of Sumeg and the surrounding countryside.
