Student Prison
The Studentenkarzer is a unique museum showcasing the university's own justice system from 1778 to 1914. German universities had legal authority over their students, and those who broke rules — through dueling, drunkenness, or disturbing the peace — were confined for days or weeks. Rather than seeing it as punishment, students considered it a badge of honor and decorated walls and ceilings with colorful graffiti, drawings, poems, and silhouettes. Each cell displays layers of student artwork telling stories of a century of university mischief.
