Stirling Falls
Stirling Falls is Milford Sound's second-highest waterfall, cascading 151 meters (495 feet) from a U-shaped hanging valley carved between Elephant and Lion Mountains. At three times the height of Niagara Falls, it's an awe-inspiring sight! Most cruise boats approach within 10-20 meters, allowing brave passengers to enjoy a refreshing spray shower. Local Maori belief holds that bathing under the waterfall grants eternal youth! Named after Captain J.G. Stirling. After heavy rain, the waterfall's volume increases dramatically, creating a thunderous roar.
