St. Peter's Church
St. Peter's Church is the oldest parish church in Zurich, with the original structure dating back to 857. It is famous for having the largest church clock face in Europe, measuring 8.7 meters in diameter with a minute hand of 5.73 meters. The tower was raised to 64 meters in 1450 and served for fire watch duties until 1911. The clock serves as the official Zurich local time — all other public city clocks must conform to it. Located next to the Lindenhof hill, the site of the former Roman castle, the church was built on the remains of a temple to Jupiter. The interior is Baroque style with a beautifully decorated ceiling. The surrounding area is pleasant to walk around with many shops and restaurants.
