Church of St. George
The Church of St. George is Piran's most prominent landmark, perched on a hill overlooking the town and the Adriatic Sea. The current church was built in the 17th century in Venetian Renaissance style and features a freestanding 46.5-meter bell tower inspired by St. Mark's Campanile in Venice. Visitors can climb 150 steps to the top of the tower for panoramic views encompassing three countries — Slovenia, Italy, and Croatia. The complex also includes a baptistery and a museum of religious artifacts. The church dominates the town's skyline and is visible from everywhere in Piran.
