Shwesandaw Pagoda
Shwesandaw Pagoda was built in 1057 by King Anawrahta and features five terraced levels topped by a cylindrical stupa. It was once the most famous sunset-viewing spot in Bagan until climbing was permanently banned in 2019 to protect the UNESCO site. The pagoda enshrines sacred hair relics of Buddha and sustained damage in both the 2016 and 2025 earthquakes. Visitors can now only admire the structure from ground level. For sunset views, the nearby Sulamani Hill viewpoint, Irrawaddy River cruises, or hot air balloon rides are recommended alternatives
