Sasyk-Sivash Pink Lake
Sasyk-Sivash is the largest lake in Crimea covering over 75 square kilometers, famous for its stunning pink color. Microalgae called Dunaliella salina living in its salty waters produce beta-carotene pigment that gives the water its unique color. The hotter the summer and lower the water level, the more intense the color becomes - from pale pink to bright crimson. The lake also contains therapeutic mud and salt with healing properties comparable to the Dead Sea, rich in magnesium, calcium, potassium, and other minerals.
