San Gervasio is the most important archaeological site on Cozumel and was sacred to the Maya goddess Ix Chel, goddess of the moon, fertility, and medicine. Women from across Maya civilization would pilgrimage here for her blessing. Though smaller than mainland sites, it offers unique insight into Maya island culture with trails through the jungle.
