Salar de Atacama
Salar de Atacama is Chile's largest and the world's third-largest salt flat. Against a surreal backdrop of white salt crust and snow-capped Andes, three species of flamingos thrive here. Laguna Chaxa is the prime viewing spot - pink flamingos feed in shallow waters while the lagoon reflects blue sky and volcanic peaks. Sunset transforms the scene into fiery colors. This is a vital breeding ground for the endangered Andean flamingo - Chaxa is one of the best places on Earth to see this rare species.
