Sainte-Mère-Église
Sainte-Mère-Église was the first French town liberated by Allied forces on D-Day. It became famous for paratrooper John Steele, whose parachute caught on the church steeple during the night drop. A mannequin paratrooper still hangs from the church in his memory. The Airborne Museum houses an exceptional collection including a Douglas C-47 aircraft, a WACO glider, and thousands of authentic artifacts telling the story of American paratroopers of the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions.
