The Royal Exhibition Building is Australia's first UNESCO World Heritage-listed building (2004). Built in 1880 to host the Melbourne International Exhibition, it witnessed the opening of the first Australian Parliament in 1901 and the first raising of the Australian flag. With its magnificent dome and Victorian ornamentation, it today hosts exhibitions and events in the historic Carlton Gardens.
