Ross Castle is a 15th-century tower house dramatically situated on the shores of Lough Leane, the largest of the Killarney lakes. Built as a stronghold of the O'Donoghue Mór clan, it was one of the last castles to fall to Cromwellian forces in 1652. Today the castle offers guided tours and serves as a departure point for boat trips across the lakes.
