Roman Temple of Évora
The Roman Temple of Évora is the best-preserved Roman temple on the Iberian Peninsula, dating from the 1st century CE. Built during Emperor Augustus's reign as part of the Roman forum, 14 of the original 18 Corinthian columns still stand on a 3-meter stone podium. Despite being called the Temple of Diana, it was dedicated to the imperial cult. Located at the highest point of the old town, it offers a stunning sight especially when illuminated at night. The temple is part of Évora's UNESCO World Heritage historic center and is accessible 24/7 free of charge, making it an essential stop for any visitor.
