Rinno-ji Temple

Rinno-ji is Nikko's largest Buddhist temple and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The main hall Sanbutsudo ('Three Buddha Pavilion') houses three massive gilded Buddha statues standing 7-8 meters tall: Amida Nyorai, Senju Kannon, and Bato Kannon. The monk Shodo Shonin founded the temple in the 8th century.

Best Time to Visit

Combine with Toshogu in morning. Less crowded than Toshogu. The Shoyoen Garden is beautiful in autumn. Allow 30-45 minutes.
