Preah Palilay
Preah Palilay is a small Buddhist temple located in a wooded area north of the Royal Palace in Angkor Thom. The name means 'Sacred Forest of Palilay' and likely refers to a Buddhist forest. The temple features a distinctive 6-meter chimney-like tower that resembles nothing else built in the same period. Uniquely, Buddha images here survived destruction during the Hindu reaction, suggesting the temple may have been built after that period. A small Buddhist monastery now exists nearby.
