Pre Rup
Pre Rup is a majestic Hindu mountain temple built in 961 AD as the state temple of King Rajendravarman. The name means 'Turn the Body' and refers to royal cremation rituals. The temple rises in three tiered levels topped by five towers in a quincunx arrangement, representing sacred Mount Meru. It is considered one of the best sunset spots in Angkor, where evening light bathes the red brick and laterite in a warm glow. The architecture represents a transition from pre-Angkor to the classical Khmer Empire style.
