Praça do Giraldo
Praça do Giraldo is the beating heart of historic Évora, named after the knight Giraldo Sem Pavor who recaptured the city from the Moors in 1167. The square is surrounded by beautiful Moorish-style arcades from the 16th-18th centuries, with the 1571 Fonte Henriquina baroque fountain at its center featuring eight spouts symbolizing the eight radiating streets. Here you'll find the imposing Igreja de Santo Antão, outdoor cafés, restaurants, and artisan shops. A popular market takes place every first Tuesday of the month. This is the perfect starting point for exploring the UNESCO World Heritage center.
