Pontocho is a historic narrow alley running between the Kamo River and Kiyamachi Street, considered one of Kyoto's most atmospheric locations. Lined with traditional teahouses, upscale restaurants, and bars, many overlooking the river. In the evening, traditional lanterns are lit and you may spot geisha or maiko walking to appointments.
