The iconic heart of Bukhara - the 47m Kalyan Minaret (1127), Kalyan Mosque, and Mir-i Arab Madrasah. The minaret so impressed Genghis Khan that he spared it during destruction. The mosque holds 10,000 worshippers.

Useful tips for visiting Po-i-Kalyan Complex

Kalyan minaret was also used for executions - hence 'Tower of Death'. Mir-i Arab is active madrasah - entry limited. Best photos from roof terraces of nearby restaurants. Spectacular at night when illuminated.
