Plotinka - Historic City Dam
The historic dam on the Iset River, effectively the birthplace of Yekaterinburg. Built in 1723 under Peter I's directive for an iron foundry, designed by dam master Leonty Zlobin from Ural larch wood which hardens rather than rots underwater. Activated on November 7, 1723, this date is considered the city's founding. Reconstructed 1830-1850 with granite facing, stone retaining walls, and ornamental cast-iron railings. The dam creates the City Pond on one side while the Iset River flows on the other. Nearby is Historical Square with a monument to city founders Tatishchev and De Hennin, a 1880s water tower, and a summer musical fountain. Rated 4.9 out of 5
