Piazza del Popolo
Piazza del Popolo is one of Rome's most famous and elegant squares. At its center stands a 3,300-year-old Egyptian obelisk brought by Augustus from Heliopolis. The square features the iconic twin churches of Santa Maria dei Miracoli and Santa Maria in Montesanto, separated by the Via del Corso. Santa Maria del Popolo church contains famous Caravaggio paintings including the Crucifixion of St. Peter. Climb up to Pincio Hill for panoramic views over the square and Rome's rooftops.
