Peristyle
The Peristyle is the central open-air courtyard of Diocletian's Palace, dating to the 4th century AD. It served as the ceremonial court where Emperor Diocletian would appear before his subjects. The original Egyptian granite columns still stand today, lending the space an authentic Roman atmosphere. Today the Peristyle is the cultural heart of Split, hosting the Split Summer Festival and various musical and cultural performances. Cafes with outdoor seating fill the marble steps, making it one of the most atmospheric spots for coffee in all of Europe. The surrounding buildings showcase a unique architectural blend of Roman, Gothic, and Renaissance elements that trace the city's evolution over seventeen centuries
