Perge is one of the largest ancient cities of Pamphylia, 17 km from Antalya. Roman gates, colonnaded street, stadium, theater — all well preserved. Fewer tourists than Ephesus.

History

Legend says Perge was founded by Greeks after the Trojan War. City flourished under Romans — population up to 100,000. Apostle Paul visited Perge twice.

What to See

Roman Gates — monumental entrance with two towers. Colonnaded Street — 300 meters, shops on sides, water channel in center. Agora — marketplace with mosaics. Baths — Roman thermae with preserved heating system. Stadium — 234 meters, 12,000 spectators. Theater — 15,000 seats.

Practical Information

Open 8:30-19:00 (summer) or until 17:00 (winter). Allow 2-3 hours. Little shade — bring water and hat.

How to Get There

17 km from Antalya. Bus to Aksu, then 2 km. Or taxi 15-20 minutes.
