Pena Palace
Pena Palace is the most outstanding example of Romantic architecture in Europe, built in 1854 on the ruins of an old monastery by order of King Ferdinand II. The palace captivates with its vibrant yellow, red, and blue colors, along with its ornate towers blending Moorish and Gothic elements. Perched atop a peak in the Serra de Sintra mountains, it is surrounded by an expansive park featuring rare trees from around the world. From its terraces, visitors enjoy breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and, on clear days, Lisbon in the distance. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the palace attracts millions of visitors annually who come to admire its fairy-tale appearance and explore its richly decorated royal apartments.
