Peace Flame

The Peace Flame was lit on August 1, 1964, and will burn until all nuclear weapons on Earth are destroyed and the planet is free from nuclear threat. The pedestal represents two hands joined at the wrist with palms facing upward to the sky, symbolizing protection of the flame. Designed by architect Kenzo Tange. Located between the Cenotaph and the Atomic Bomb Dome, creating a powerful visual alignment.
