La Sabana was the site of San Jose's main airport until 1955. In 1977 it was officially designated a metropolitan park. The old terminal building now houses the Costa Rican Art Museum.
Activities include jogging, cycling, tennis, soccer, basketball, inline skating, paddle boating on the lake, bird watching, and picnics. The park also hosts free Zumba classes and concerts.
