Parliament Hill
Parliament Hill is the seat of Canada's federal government and an iconic symbol of Canadian democracy. Three Gothic Revival buildings sit on a 50-metre bluff overlooking the Ottawa River, completed between 1859 and 1927. The central 92-metre Peace Tower dominates the city skyline and houses the Memorial Chamber and carillon bells. In summer, the site features British-style Changing of the Guard and a spectacular sound and light show projected on the buildings. The magnificent circular Parliamentary Library survived the 1916 fire and remains an architectural masterpiece.
