Palace of Culture and Science

The Palace of Culture and Science is Warsaws tallest building at 237 meters (including spire) and one of Europes tallest buildings. Built in 1952-1955 as a gift from the Soviet Union, this Stalinist architecture landmark contains theaters, cinemas, museums, offices, and a congress hall. Despite its controversial history as a symbol of Soviet domination, it remains Warsaws most recognizable building with a popular observation deck on the 30th floor.

It was built 1952-1955 as a gift from the USSR to Poland. Originally called Joseph Stalin Palace of Culture and Science, Stalin's name was removed in 1956. About 3500 Soviet workers built it in just 3 years.

On clear days you can see up to 30km including the entire city center, Old Town, Vistula River, and surrounding areas. At 114 meters height, it offers the best panoramic view of Warsaw.

The observation deck elevator is one of the fastest in Poland. Check the clock on the building - its one of the largest in the world. The building has 3288 rooms. Visit the science museum Copernicus Science Centre nearby for a full day.
