Monument to the Discoveries
The Monument to the Discoveries is a 52-meter ship-shaped monument on the banks of the Tagus River. Erected in 1960 to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Prince Henry the Navigator's death, it features 33 figures of notable personalities from Portugal's Age of Discovery, including Vasco da Gama and Magellan. The observation deck at the top offers panoramic views of Belém, the Tagus, and the massive wind rose compass below.
