Cathedral Island
Cathedral Island is the cradle of the Polish nation, where the first ruler Mieszko I established his fortress in the 10th century. This picturesque island between the Warta and Cybina rivers features a tranquil village-like atmosphere with narrow streets, green gardens, and historic churches. Every evening at dusk, a lamplighter in historical costume manually lights the old gas street lamps in a charming tradition. The island houses Poland's oldest cathedral, the Archdiocese Museum with the Sword of St. Peter, and the Genius Loci Archaeological Reserve revealing 10th-century defensive walls
