Nonnberg Abbey
Nonnberg Abbey is the oldest continuously existing nunnery in the German-speaking world, founded around 714 AD by Saint Rupert. The active Benedictine convent opens its beautiful rib-vaulted church with rare Romanesque frescoes to visitors. It gained worldwide fame as The Sound of Music filming location – Maria was actually a novice here in the true story. Listen to the nuns' sung Vespers daily at 5 PM.
