Nara Park spans 660 hectares and is famous for over 1,200 wild deer that roam freely among visitors. These deer are considered sacred in Shinto tradition and have been protected for over a thousand years. Visitors can purchase special deer crackers and feed them by hand. The park also houses historic temples, museums, and beautiful Japanese gardens.

Early morning or late afternoon when deer are most active. June is special for visiting the Rokuen garden with newborn fawns (11am-2pm, free). Avoid midday heat in summer.
