Museum of Occupations and Freedom Fights
Housed in the former headquarters of the Soviet KGB and before that the Nazi Gestapo, this is one of the most impactful museums in Vilnius. It tells the story of the Nazi and Soviet occupations of Lithuania through documents, photographs, and personal testimonies. The basement preserves the original prison cells and the execution chamber where hundreds of Lithuanian resistance fighters were killed. The experience is emotionally powerful and provides a deep understanding of the Lithuanian people's suffering during the 20th century and their struggle for independence that ultimately succeeded in 1990
