Faro Municipal Museum
Faro Municipal Museum is the second oldest museum in the Algarve, opening in 1894 on the 500th anniversary of Prince Henry the Navigator's birth. Housed in the beautiful 16th-century Nossa Senhora da Assunção convent, it contains a remarkable collection of Roman artifacts, religious art, and paintings. The main treasure is the Oceanus Mosaic from the 2nd-3rd century, discovered near the current train station and exceptionally well preserved. The peaceful convent cloister provides a lovely escape from the city.
