Monserrate Palace
Monserrate Palace is an architectural gem combining Moorish, Indian, and Gothic influences in a unique design. Built in the 19th century for wealthy Englishman Francis Cook, it features a stunning stone facade resembling carved lace. The palace is surrounded by a 30-hectare tropical garden housing over 2,500 plant species from around the world, including giant ferns and rare trees. Less crowded than other Sintra attractions, it offers a tranquil retreat for nature and architecture lovers. Part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the palace is currently undergoing roof restoration until 2027 with scaffolding visible but interior fully accessible.
