Meganebashi (Spectacles Bridge)
Meganebashi (Spectacles Bridge) is Japan's oldest stone arch bridge, built in 1634 by a Chinese Zen monk. When reflected in the Nakashima River, the bridge forms a perfect spectacles shape, giving it its distinctive name. The bridge is one of Japan's 'Three Famous Bridges' alongside Tokyo's Nihonbashi and Iwakuni's Kintaikyo. Finding heart-shaped stones (20 of them) embedded in the river embankment is a popular visitor activity. The bridge is illuminated at night, offering a magical romantic atmosphere along the riverside promenade. Designated as an Important Cultural Property.
