Medina of Kairouan

The Medina of Kairouan is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the fourth holiest city in Islam. Founded in 670 CE as the first Islamic capital of North Africa. The ancient walls contain hundreds of mosques, shrines, madrasas, and traditional souks. Famous for carpet-making and makroud (traditional pastry).
