Mausoleum of Emperor Ferdinand II
The Mausoleum of Emperor Ferdinand II, built between 1614 and 1637, is an architectural masterpiece combining late Renaissance Mannerism with early Baroque elements. The complex consists of St. Catherine's Church (Katharinenkirche) and the adjoining oval burial chapel. The mausoleum was intended as the tomb for the emperor and his first wife. The oval dome above the burial chamber was the first of its kind built outside Italy, making it an architectural landmark. The Baroque interior was designed by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach in 1687. Part of the UNESCO World Heritage Historic Centre of Graz.
