Manchester Cathedral is the mother church of the Anglican Diocese of Manchester and has been at the heart of the city's history for nearly 600 years. The present church was built in the Perpendicular Gothic style after 1421. The cathedral is renowned for its Minstrel Angel sculptures commissioned by Margaret Beaufort, and a collection of 30 misericords from the 16th century which are among the finest in Europe.
