Malbork Castle
Malbork Castle is the largest castle in the world by land area and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built by the Teutonic Knights starting from 1274 in red brick Northern Gothic style on the banks of the Nogat River, it served as the headquarters of the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order and the largest fortress in medieval Christendom. The complex consists of three sections: the High, Middle, and Low Castles, featuring a church, grand halls, and museums with weapons, armor, and amber collections. Destroyed 60 percent during WWII, it has been meticulously restored. Located 60 km from Gdansk and reachable by train in 45 minutes, it is one of the most impressive medieval monuments in Europe.
