Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley
The Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley is Andorras only UNESCO World Heritage Site, designated in 2004 as a cultural landscape. Covering 4,247 hectares (9% of Andorra), this glacial valley offers a microcosmic perspective of how people have harvested Pyrenean mountain resources for millennia. The landscape features dramatic glacial formations, high alpine pastures, steep wooded valleys, and evidence of traditional mountain life including summer settlements, terraced fields, and ancient iron smelting sites. It remains the last undeveloped area in Andorra, considered the spiritual heart of the nation.
