Maboneng Precinct
Maboneng, meaning 'place of light' in Sesotho, is a vibrant arts district transformed from an abandoned industrial area into Johannesburg's leading cultural hub. It features over 50 street art pieces and galleries like Arts on Main, home to world-renowned artist William Kentridge's studio. Fox Street forms the pulsating heart with dozens of cafes, restaurants, and boutiques. The Market on Main runs every Sunday attracting locals and tourists with international cuisine and live music. The precinct houses the Museum of African Design (MOAD), the independent Bioscope cinema, and POPArt Theatre. The 12 Decades Hotel offers rooms designed by local artists like Love Jozi and Black Coffee.
