Lindenhof
Lindenhof is a historic hill and public square considered the origin point of Zurich, offering one of the best free panoramic views over the city. The hill was once the site of a Roman fort and later a Carolingian royal residence, giving it an important role in Zurich's early history. A tombstone from 180 AD with the inscription Turicum — the first written mention of Zurich's ancient name — can still be found here. The square is surrounded by large, shady linden trees that gave the place its name, with plenty of benches perfect for taking a break or capturing beautiful photos. Locals and visitors meet here for games of chess or petanque tournaments. The water from the Hedwigbrunnen fountain is drinkable.
